How It All Began

One Village of New Miami was founded in 2023 by Joslyn Benson, a lifelong resident passionate about serving youth and families. With over a decade of experience in youth development and community programs, Joslyn saw a need for accessible youth activities, recreation, and family resources in New Miami. As a small community with limited options for elementary students, New Miami needed an organization to create positive youth experiences and strengthen connections among families, schools, and community partners. One Village was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to bring people together and support the idea that it takes a village to raise and empower children.

Building a Stronger Village

What began as a vision to provide more opportunities for children has grown into a community outreach organization committed to serving youth and families throughout New Miami, including students attending the New Miami Local School District.

Through the dedication of volunteers, community partners, donors, and local supporters, One Village of New Miami has continued to expand its reach and develop programs that address the community's needs.

Our work is centered around three key areas:

• Youth Programming: Providing safe, positive, and enriching experiences through summer camps, mentoring, educational activities, and youth development opportunities.

• One Village Athletics: Creating affordable and accessible recreational sports opportunities through basketball, volleyball, cheerleading, and flag football while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence.

• Community Outreach: Supporting families through food assistance, youth snack distribution, holiday programs, clothing assistance, family events, and connections to community resources.

 

Growing to Meet the Needs of Our Community

As One Village of New Miami has grown, so has our understanding of local families’ needs. Supporting children means more than recreation; it means providing food, essential resources, positive role models, and a caring community.

 

That commitment drives our Youth Food Pantry and Weekly Youth Snack Bag Distribution, which provide local youth with food and essentials. Our summer camp offers a safe place to learn, explore, and access new opportunities.

 

Our annual Community Day & Health Fair brings families, local organizations, healthcare providers, and community partners together for fellowship, resources, and fun. Each program reflects our commitment to listening, addressing community needs, and making a meaningful difference together.

Our Vision for the Future

Our story is still being written. One Village of New Miami is committed to expanding programs, strengthening partnerships, and creating a permanent space where youth and families can access resources, enriching activities, and support. We envision transforming the One Village Community Building into a welcoming Resource Center offering youth development, food assistance, family support, and community engagement. Every child deserves the chance to succeed, every family deserves support, and every community deserves a safe space.

More Than an Organization: We Are a Village 

One Village of New Miami is more than a nonprofit organization. We are a community of volunteers, families, coaches, mentors, donors, and supporters who believe that change begins when people come together with a shared purpose.

From our beginning in 2023 to the programs and partnerships we continue to build today, our mission remains the same: to impact the lives of the youth and families we serve.
